May Sermon Series

Our May sermon series will be based on "Loving one another' - "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."  John 13:3-5

May 4 - Acts 8:26-40

The power of the Word in Community

As Christians, as disciples of Jesus, our Lord has instructed us to stay in the Word – the Bible, to stay close to Him, and to continue to gather with other believers.  God doesn’t always tell us the “why” behind His directives but actually chooses to let us experience the value.  Such it is when you put all three of those together.  We experience that we need each other as we gather around His Word and seek to be close to Him.  We gain insight from others and we also have the opportunity to share any insights we may have.  That is why groups and small group Bible studies have such value.

May 18 – 2 Corinthians 13:14 - Guest Preacher - Jon Bare

A Three-fold Blessing from our Three in One God

From the creation of the world to universal salvation won by Jesus to your personal salvation and mine to the time we enter our heavenly home, God – the triune God – was and is at work.  At creation, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all present, were all working (Genesis 1).  In our salvation the Son gave up his life, sent by the Father, led on by the Spirit.  Now we come to faith by the work of the Holy Spirit.  Through his work we are now connected to God as our father through the blood of the Son.   We receive the power of this at baptism – salvation, life, and freedom (Matthew 28:16-20).  Now we live our lives for the same triune God.  Likewise we know that His grace, His love, and His fellowship (2 Cor 14:11-14) will be with us carrying us through this life to our eternal life

May 25 - Philemon 1: 10-21

Count the Cost: 1) The cost of our freedom was great.  2)  The cost of discipleship is small.

This text from Philemon can send us into a politically correct frenzy because it mentions “slavery,” and we all know in that we are against slavery.  Paul is encouraging a Christian master to take back a Christian slave who ran away.  He does not seek to abolish a very common practice of the day but instead challenges the heart of the slave owner to look at his slave differently – as a brother in Christ.  And then, with the heart issue on the table, Paul is seeking glory for Christ because only the amazing and eternally costly sacrifice of Jesus could cause the master to make a small sacrifice like treating his slave more like a brother.  The same idea exists for us in our lives.  God is addressing our hearts.  What is the cost for acting differently toward a person not in our economic or social circles – come on, we must admit there is a price to pay.  But, weigh that out against the much costlier sacrifice Jesus made for our eternal freedom.  Now, anything we do as an expression of thanks for being freed from hells chains, seems inconsequential in relation to Jesus’ “gi-normous” sacrifice for us

Hope Lutheran is a mission church of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.  Our beliefs are presented in a style that applies to the everyday challenges we face.  The foundation of our congregation can be summarized in the following statements:
  • You are saved because Jesus died for your sins
  • God is in control and guides us in our lives
  • God answers life's most difficult questions
  • God is accessible to us in many ways
  • Worship service should be relevant and interesting
Our 9:00 am Sunday worship service is held at the Summit Town Hall (our temporary home).  The services offer a Lutheran format with contemporary music and setting.  Visitors find our services inspirational, meaningful, and easy to follow.

Thursday evening services are held in a relaxed environment at our Dousman Office at 7:00 pm.  You are invited to take part in this celebration, giving honor to our Lord.  We take time to pray, we listen to His word, the Bible.  During the lesson we learn together and grow together with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

We would like to invite you to an upcoming service, and we encourage you to join us afterward for refreshments and conversation.
